Honda's Manesar facility: Talks on between workers, management

The Haryana labour department on Tuesday initiated conciliatory talks between the workers and the management of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Limited (HMSI). On Monday, HMSI’s Manesar facility had seen a tussle between workers and the management, with the workers’ union demanding revocation of the suspension of two employees, Naresh Yadav and Jaibeer Yadav, who it claimed had been penalised on “flimsy grounds”. Union representatives said the workers were suspended over arguments on leaves availed of in the previous week. The workers, however, decided not to call for a strike, but resolve the dispute through discussions. The union would wait till Thursday for the company to complete its enquiry before deciding on its course of action.
HMSI said production at the plant remained normal. “We have received a report of manhandling and assault of a manager with the intent of creating an environment of terror in the logistics work area. Based on the incident report received, a preliminary enquiry has been conducted and two persons, Naresh Yadav and Jaibeer Yadav, have been suspended, pending enquiry. We are open to discussions. Action would be taken after completion of the enquiry. We are in touch with the labour department on the matter,” a company statement read.
