Info Edge acquires MakeSense Tech for Rs 8 cr

Acquisition will significantly benefit InfoEdge and specially Naukri.com, says CEO

Internet firm Info Edge, which owns job portal Naukri.Com, today said it has acquired software developer MakeSense Technologies for Rs 8 crore.

"The Company has acquired MakeSense Technologies Private limited for about Rs 80 million," Info Edge said in a filing to the BSE.

MakeSense Technologies has developed proprietary software for semantic search, which will augment search capabilities for both recruiters and job seekers, principally on the company's portal Naukri.Com, it added.

Info Edge in a statement said MakeSense has developed an advanced semantic search technology for the recruitment space, using the power of natural language processing and text analytics.

"The acquisition will significantly benefit InfoEdge and specially Naukri as the technological expertise and experience of the MakeSense team will help us introduce new features for our recruitment business," Info Edge CEO Hitesh Oberoi said.

As a part of the acquisition, the team of MakeSense will join Info Edge, he added.

Info Edge has been investing in emerging Internet firms such as policybazaar.com, mydala.com, 99labels.com and zomato.com.

Last month, the company increased its investment in the online education player Meritnation.com to Rs 61.5 crore from Rs 31.5 crore.

In the same month, Info Edge announced that it has invested an additional Rs 55 crore in restaurant guide service Zomato.
