No plans to enter tablet PC market: Panasonic

Japanese consumer durables major today said it has no plans to enter the tablet personal computers market, which is all set to double this year.

"No, we have no plans to enter this market. Worldwide we do not have tablet and even in India we are not interested in launching tablets," Panasonic India President Daizo Ito told reporters here on the sidelines of commemorating anniversary celebrations of Panasonic brandshop at Shubhlabh in TNagar.

Ito said they were focused on delivering products Business-to-Business segment than B2C category.

Industry experts say tablet PCs are smaller in size but have operations like that of a PC. In 2011, the size of tablet PCs is set to double and reach 5 lakh units from the present 2.50 lakh units.

Already many big and small consumer durable players like Sony, LG, Reliance in Motion, Samsung have forayed into this business launching various models of tablet PCs.

Panasonic India National Head (Sales and Operations) Kotresh Jali said the company already has a presence in the PC division. "It is mainly in the B2B segment. It is a very heavy computer used for industrial applications..Even if you throw it on the floor, it will not break," he said.

On plans for the coming festive season,he said the company had alloted Rs 100 crore for product promotion. "This has been allotted for promotion of all products in the festive season. It includes advertisement campaigning also," he said.

Ito said the total exclusive Panasonic brandshops has reached 117 pan India "which underlines Panasonic's commitment to make world-class technology across India".

Tamil Nadu contributes about 8 per cent to the total sales, he added.
