France-based Relais & Chateaux, which manages 500 hotels and gourmet restaurants in sixty countries, is planning to add three properties to the existing six in India.

"The first Indian property that joined Relais & Chateaux was in 2008, and five years after in 2012, we have a total of six properties in the country and one in Sri Lanka. We hope to ultimately grow the portfolio of the Indian properties in key cities, including Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur in Rajasthan," Relais & Chateaux Director of Sales and Marketing Angeline Tang told PTI.

The company recognises the potential of the Indian outbound and domestic markets, she said.

The Indian travellers, according to Tang, are inclined to luxury, tend to associate it highly with service levels, and expect to be pampered and anticipate recognition of their social status. The Indian luxury travellers take multiple trips throughout the year and also look out for "value-for-money" deals, she added.

Globally, the company employs approximately 22,000 people in 518 properties in 60 countries. In the Indian sub-continent, including Sri Lanka, it employs around 300 employees in seven properties.
