Flush with funds from the $100 million it got from Tiger Global in January, Shopclues is planning to hire 200-300 people by the end of FY16. After the latest round of hiring, the Delhi-based e-tailer would have almost 1,500 direct employees. It had added 850 to its staff in the past year. The e-tailer plans to strengthen their technology team and upper and middle management layer. “We expect to double our tech team size at the end of the hiring session,” said Radhika Aggarwal, co-founder and business officer. It appointed Raunak Raheja from eBay as director (categories). Nitin Sharma from Hewlett-Packard India was also added to team in August.
Former senior director of business development at Flipkart, Nitin Kochhar, joined as assistant vice-president (categories) in June. Animesh Kumar, associate director at Shopclues, from Fashionara was another high-profile hire. “We are looking at hiring someone at the senior vice-president level for our human resource processes and that should be done in the next two months,” Aggarwal said. The company was focusing on hires from engineering colleges such as IITs, Delhi Technical University, MNIT and other institutions of a similar ilk. “The rest will be from other companies in the sector,” she said. “Constant campus engagement will be one of our key priorities,” she added. These hires, sources said, come after the company targeted gross merchandise value of Rs 1.2 billion in FY16. “We need the gunpowder to grow in the next few months and that is why we need a bigger staff,” Aggarwal said. She claimed the company had grown seven times over the past year and expected to keep up a similar speed. “Our Rs 1,500 crore shopping plans during Diwali will help us get close to our goal,” she added. Shopclues is also looking to acquire another company. “We are looking at companies in the advertisement technology and payment space,” she said. Others in the e-retail business, too, have aggressively added to their team after Snapdeal snapped up 250 management graduates this year and reports say it is looking to double its workforce to 10,000. Flipkart, too, is looking to make high-profile hires from India as well as Silicon Valley, reports say.
