Sony India appoints Kenichiro Hibi as new MD
Hibi is currently the Managing Director of Sony's CIS operations, a position he has held over the last six years
Japanese electronics major Sony today announced a top-level management change in its Indian operations with the appointment of Kenichiro Hibi as Managing Director with effect from July 1.
The incumbent Masaru Tamagawa will move on to become President for Sony Europe from next month.
"Sony India announces the appointment of Kenichiro Hibi as its new Managing Director, overseeing Sony's operations in the region with effect from July 1, 2012," the company said in a statement.
Hibi is currently the Managing Director of Sony's CIS operations, a position he has held over the last six years.
Commenting on the new appointment, Sony Corporation Senior Vice President (Global Sales and Marketing) Haruyasu Nagata said: "He (Hibi) has already successfully contributed to Sony's growth in the rapidly evolving Russia market, and we are confident that his experience and expertise will take our Indian operations to the next level."
Tamagawa, who had joined Sony India in 2007, made it a top ranking sales company, contributing significantly to Sony's global sales, he added.
In contrast to its loss-making Japanese parent, Sony India is targeting a 30% jump in turnover this fiscal from Rs 6,313 crore posted in 2011-12.
The company is also planning to increase its headcount by 500 people in 2012-13 in India in contrast to the 10,000 reported job cuts globally by the parent -- Sony Corporation.
