Toyota Kirloskar sales up over two-fold in May

Sales jumped on robust demand for its all models

Toyota Kirloskar Motor today reported an over two-fold increase in car sales to 15,501 units in May, driven by robust demand for its all models.

The company had sold 7,470 units in the corresponding month last year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said in a statement.

"Production was affected by tsunami last year, thus affecting sales in May 2011... The sales have been good, despite the low market sentiments," TKM Deputy Managing Director (Marketing) Sandeep Singh said.

The company attributed the growth to all its models -- Etios, Liva, Innova and Fortuner, he added.

The company sold 4,270 units of the Etios and 2,587 units of the Liva last month. It also sold 6,710 units of the new version of multi-utility vehicle Innova, besides 1,399 units of the new Fortuner SUV.

Luxury sedan Corolla Altis contributed to the sales tally with 523 units, TKM said.
