Voltas bagged one of the most prestigious honour, namely 'MEP Contractor of the Year' at the recently held MEP Middle East Awards held in Dubai. The award was a tribute to Voltas' MEP services for the iconic new Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi.
According to an official communique, the judges selected Voltas for its sheer ability to undertake large, complex and diverse projects across the region, involving mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) works for several iconic developments. They were all praise for Voltas' exponential growth over the last 10 years' as a prominent player in MEP contracting in the region, and made special mention of its thorough work processes as a key factor behind its success.
Etihad Towers was also adjudged the 'Overall GCC Project of the Year', with Voltas' electro-mechanical works playing an important role in the victory. Voltas had supplied, installed, tested and commissioned MEP services for 3 towers, podiums, basement and a floating restaurant. The scope of work included HVAC, car park ventilation, high-voltage network, low and extra-low voltage systems like CCTV and DATA/TEL, water supply & sewerage, drainage, firefighting and fire suppression, and hot & cold water systems. Voltas also undertook numerous value-engineering initiatives and 'green' measures, bringing about significant savings in costs and energy usage.
It was a repeat of Voltas' success at the MEP Awards 2010, as 'MEP Contractor of the Year' for its work on the Ferrari World project (which also won the 'Overall GCC Project of the Year' honours). "It was a fiercely fought contest, as always. It's a matter of great pride for Voltas to have won the highest honours two years in a row, against such formidable international competition," said Shaukat Ali Mir, EVP & COO, Electrical & Mechanical Division, Voltas.
Etihad Towers is the latest addition to Voltas' lengthy portfolio of electro-mechanical work for landmark developments, especially in GCC and SE Asian countries. Over several decades, Voltas has built up a history of engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning for multi-million dollar projects high in scope and complexity. Some notable recent projects include Ferrari World, F1 Grand Prix Circuit and Emirates Palace.
