Yamaha expects 40% sales from scooter segment by 2015

The company which is planning to sell five lakh vehicles in 2013, said two lakh of these would be scooters

The Japanese auto major has set a target to sell one million units by 2015. One of the major focus for the company will be Scooter segment.

Roy Kurian, national business head, India Yamaha Motors Pvt Ltd said that the segment is growing at 20% and by 2015 it will grow by 30-35% by 2015.

"We are planning to consolidate in this segment and 40% of our sales will be contributed by scooter segment by 2015".

The company which is planning to sell five lakh vehicles in 2013, said two lakh of this would be scooters. The company which launched Ray model in September sold 35,000 units till now, he said.

He said, the upcoming plant in Chennai will play a key role and the plant which will commence operations in 2014 will start production with Scooter.

The company is setting up a 1.5 million capacity plant in Chennai, which will take company's total volume to 2.5 million units, said Kurian.
