Businessmen dealing in standby power systems like generators and battery-based inverters are having a field day in Jharkhand, with sales booming and long waiting times for first time buyers.
For their good fortune, they have to thank Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) which has failed to deliver uninterrupted supply of electricity even to the state capital Ranchi. Consumers under JSEB were experiencing 6-10 hours of power cuts daily.
JSEB under its former chairman Rajib Ranjan had reprtedly been working on a plan so that Ranchi would get uninterrupted power. JSEB has since been reconstituted under a new chairman, B K Chauhan. But power cuts of 6-12 hours a day even in the prevailing heat-wave has continued. Worst hit has been drinking water supply.
Jharkhand energy minister Lal Chand Mahto had been at loggerheads with Ranjan and this had increased the woes of consumers. Babulal Marandi has in the meantime resigned as chief minister and Arjun Munda has become chief minister. Mahato continued as energy minister and succeeded in ousting Ranjan.
