MCC ups garbage disposal efforts

Related News

The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has intensified its efforts to dissipate the message over garbage disposal across the city.

Besides initiating projects to convert waste into energy by adopting new technologies by tying up with a couple of industries and institutions, it has now taken up an intensive campaign to spread the message of segregation of garbage at its origin.

Segregation is being done presently at its waste management plant where the civic agency’s woirkers are engaged in the onerous task. MCC is also facing an acute shortage of manpower at the plant.

The campaign to spread the message of ‘segregate wet waste and dry waste’ is being launched tomorrow and MCC has been taking up different media campaigns to educate residents on segregating waste at their homes itself.

Besides distributing handbills on the manner in which wet waste and solid waste should be segregated in their homes, MCC is also planning group marches, street plays and public announcements across different areas during the campaign.

The maiden awareness campaign will be launched on Wednesday at 10 am at Vijayanagar, one of the recent extensions. A rally of children will be part of the programme, besides public announcement by an MCC vehicle.

The MCC vehicle will continue public announcements in the mornings and evenings everyday in different localities, said the MCC Health Officer.

Besides public announcements, Rangayana, the repertory in Mysore, will conduct streetplays in each ward of the corporation spreading awareness on waste segragation.

Presently, most homes do not segregate waste. However, it is collected daily from their homes and taken to landfill area.
