Naveen urges for safety at RSP

Worried over the two recent accidents leading to the deaths of two workers at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), the state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sought the intervention of Union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma to ensure such accidents do not recur in the future.

In the ongoing modernization work of RSP, one worker lost his life in an accident on December 2. Similarly, on December 4, one contractual worker was killed while another worker sustained serious injuries. “Since Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is the largest steel manufacturer in the country and is a maharatna company, it is expected that they will be adhering to world class safety standards. It must be ensured that the safety norms are not compromised at any cost in all work procedures. Unless this is done, we may see the recurrence of such tragic incidents which is just not acceptable in on Monday's day and age,” Patnaik wrote in his letter to the Union steel minister.
