New airport terminal for Chandigarh in 2015

Come February 2015, Chand-igarh will have state-of-the-art integrated terminal building built with a project cost of Rs 450 crore. The terminal will be able to handle 1,150 domestic and 450 international passengers. The proposed covered area will be 40,000 square metres. Construction major Larsen & Toubro has been chosen to execute the project by the Airports Authority of India ().

The building will be environment-friendly or ‘green’ building, with a 4-star Green Rating Integrated Habitat Assessment () rating. GRIHA is is the national rating system of India. It is a design evaluation system for green buildings, and is suitable for all kinds of buildings in different climatic zones of the country, which has been conceived by The Energy and Resources Institute and developed jointly with the ministry of new and renewable energy.

Speaking to Business Standard, a senior AAI official said, "The total project cost is Rs 450 crore which includes building and allied works. To start with, it will have three aerobridges and later, five. The building would be equipped with a state-of-the-art flight information system, conveyer belts for arrival and departure, X-ray for baggage scan, state-of-the-art technology for surveillance including closed-circuit television; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system; fire alarm; fire-fighting devices etc."
