The BJP yesterday said it could again be invited to form a government at the Centre and could garner greater support in the event of the Congress withdrawing support to the Deve Gowda government. The President might invite our party to form a government and we will give due weightage to it, BJP national vice-president, Jana Krishnamurthy, told reporters here.

The factors which influenced the decision of various political to decline support the 13-day-old BJP government at the Centre could not exist again, he said.

Then the regional parties like TDP and DMK had brushed aside the BJPs plea for support, stating they had promised support to the United Front government. But now they cannot give the same excuse, Krishnamurthy said.

Probably, we can work out a common or agreed minimum programme, he said.

Stating that the country might face mid-term elections in the next few months as Congress president, Sitaram Kesari, was keen on establishing his partys government, he said the Gowda government was not in power due to its inherent strength but on the mercy of the Congress support.

Krishnamurthy said the BJP was ready to face mid-term elections and expressed the hope that it would emerge as the ruling party with the required majority.

Referring to the problems faced by the partys government in Rajasthan, he alleged that it had been instigated by the United Front government with support from the Congress.

The United Front and Congress have hatched a conspiracy to dissolve all BJP governments in the state prior to the mid-term elections. It was with this in mind that BJP was not not allowed to form the government in Uttar Pradesh, he said.

On talks with BSP, he said the demands raised by bsp supremo, Kanshi Ram, in forming the government in Uttar Pradesh were unrealistic. However, it would now await the Supreme Court verdict on reimposition of the Presidents rule before deciding further options, he said.

Conceding that the BJP government in Gujarat fell on account of indiscipline among party legislators, he said the UF and the Congress utilised the opportunity totally to install a government of their choice.

On the performance of the UF government, he said the economy was in a shambles, while prices of agricultural commodities were under control only due to seasonal rains.
