West Bengal witnesses 61% urban mobile penetration

Altogether 43 per cent households in West Bengal use mobile phones, while for the urban population it is 61 per cent.

Altogether 49 per cent households in the state have telephone with the percentage being 75 for urban population, WB census operation director Dipak Ghosh said while announcing the results of 2011 census with regard to housing, household amenities and assets.

Ghosh said eight per cent households in the state have computers and laptops.

15 per cent urban household population have computers.

He said only 18 per cent households in the state use LPG as their cooking fuel, while the figure is 48.2 for the urban population.

In the national scenario, West Bengal's position is 28 in LPG usage as fuel for cooking.
