Shares of broadcasting companies and cable service providers such as Wire and Wireless India (WWIL), Hathway Cable, Den Networks and Dish TV has opened higher by more than 2% each after the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2011, was passed in the Lok Sabha.

Once the law is in place, the cable television industry will convert to digital from analog cable. The move requires even free-to-air channels to go through the subscriber’s set-top box.

The measure will provide consumers high quality viewing and also higher number of TV channels. There will be no prime band after introduction of digitisation.
