Mounting a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi while leading a protest march against demonetisation in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that the former has acted like god in implementing the demonetisation decision without caring about the common man.
Chief Minister Banerjee also threatened to demonstrate outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence against demonetisation.
"People are distressed. I believe such a step has not been taken anywhere worldwide. Suddenly Modi ji felt, he acts like God. He has done whatever he wants, without knowing the consequence. Ask him why there's scarcity of notes in banks. If there was ample notes in banks then nothing would have bothered us. Without any proper strategy he took the step," she said.
"Today, I am taking pledge that either I'll die or live, but will remove PM Modi from Indian politics," she added
Vowing to dislodge Prime Minister Modi from the seat of power if the scrapping of high value currency notes is not withdrawn, she said "Markets, movie halls, theatres, art, culture all on pause now. Hawkers are unable to earn anything. Common people are affected. We call all the intellectual class nation-wide to take their protest to roads. Let's fight to find solution for the common people."
Continuing her tirade against Prime Minister Modi, Banerjee said she would fight till the end against the anti-people decision.
The TMC supremo along with Trinamool Congress leaders and activists led a massive rally in the heart of Kolkata.
Parliament has been adjourned for the day following repeated protests by the opposition over their demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's presence during a discussion on the issue.
In the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said, the government's intention about the decision on demonetization is unquestionable. Singh described the decision as historic, bold and pro-poor. He said, the decision has been considered in the interest of the nation.
