Rockets fired into Israel near Gaza strip

An Israeli siren smartphone app has warned that missiles were fired at southern near the Strip on Thursday.

According to initial reports, "a red alert was activated" by the app in that region.

Later, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Twitter that at least two missiles were launched from the Strip, but did not reach the country.

"Following the sirens that were sounded in Hof Ashkelon & Sha'ar HaNegev regional councils in southern earlier this evening, 2 launches from towards landed within the Strip," IDF tweeted.
