Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro once compared Bangladesh's founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the Himalayas.
Castro said: "I have not seen the Himalayas. But I have seen Sheikh Mujib. In personality and in courage, this man is the Himalayas. I have thus had the experience of witnessing the Himalayas."
The former Cuban President, who died on Friday at age 90, made the remarks in the 1973 Non-Aligned Movement Summit held in Algiers, Dhaka Tribune reported.
Castro played a great supporting role in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh due to which he was honoured with "Muktijuddo Moitree Sommanona".
Bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Cuba have been warm with both the countries identifying pharmaceutical industries as a potential sector for the economic cooperation between them.
