The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Wednesday summoned the commissioner of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North MCD) to appear before it on December 13 after the civic body failed to demolish hidden cells (tehkhanas) in the brothels at GB Road.
The DCW had earlier given given information about these hidden cells which are being used to hide trafficked minor girls to the North MCD during their mutual meetings and through letters.
"The North MCD, despite repeated requests has till date failed to seal these illegal hidden cells or take any concrete action despite conduction of two surveys in the area. The information of presence of these illegal structures in the brothels has been brought to the notice of North MCD time and again by the Commission," said a statement issued by the DCW.
"After two surveys in the past one year, North MCD now has refused to seal tehkhanas/hidden cells in GB Road. Summoned Commissioner with survey report, building plan and proper reason for non sealing of tehkhanas which are used to hide trafficked girls in GB road! We won't rest until they are sealed!" Swati Jai Hind, DCW Chairperson tweeted.
