Engineering student arrested for raping neighbour

An engineering diploma student was arrested here for raping his neighbour two months ago, police said Tuesday.

Bunty, 22, pursuing ITI diploma from an institute, was arrested Sunday evening from east Delhi's Mandawali area when he again tried to force the victim, 19, to have a physical relationship.

After failing in his attempt, the accused beat her in public but was caught when the victim approached the police and reported her ordeal.

The girl, doing graduation from the Delhi University via correspondence, told police the accused raped her in August at a hotel in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad.

"At that time, the girl did not tell anyone about the incident as the accused threatened her with dire consequences," a police officer said.
