Headless bodies of an elderly couple were found in Deoria in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, the state police said.
The crime was reported from Shahpur Puraini village in Deoria district. According to the police, a head chopped off from the body was found at an abandoned place.
While the police were trying to locate the torso and contain mob anger, barely a km away, the body of his wife was also spotted.
Like her husband, her head too was found chopped off. The killers also severed one breast from the body and mutilated it.
The elderly man has been identified as Mohammd Shareef, a resident of Baghdad Mahuari village while the woman has been identified as his wife Jaseem.
The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are trying to find out what could have led to the gruesome murders.
Chiranjeev Nath Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, told IANS the motive behind the killings was not known as yet but that he hoped the case would be worked out soon.
