Greenblatt also with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday to discuss how to combat the instigation of violence and prepare for the Palestinian leader's visit to the White House, whose date has not been finalised yet.

Abbas said that a "historic" peace agreement is possible under Trump's leadership and this deal will enhance security throughout the region.

The Palestinian president insisted on defending the two-state solution as a strategic choice.

Greenblatt pointed out that the meeting was positive and productive on the current situation, noting that they talked about how to move towards peace and strengthen the capacity of the Palestinian security forces.
