"If this situation of aggression under the patronage of the ruling party with complete impunity continues, many parts of UP are in danger of descending into spirals of caste and communal violence," CPI-M leaders Brinda Karat and Subhashini Ali told President Pranab Mukherjee here.
The President was told that the formation of a BJP government in Uttar Pradesh had encouraged vigilante groups, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's Hindu Yuva Vahini, to attack sections of people with impunity.
"BJP leaders, including elected representatives, have also participated in these attacks," they said.
"The President gave the delegation a very sympathetic hearing and expressed his anguish," the Communist Party of India-Marxist said in a statement.
"He said he would do whatever was in his power to ensure justice to the Dalits."
