Martyred soldiers: Odisha CM not to celebrate birthday

IANS  |  Bhubaneswar

Chief Minister has decided not to celebrate his 71st birthday on Sunday as a mark of respect to the soldiers martyred while fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

"The Chief Minister has decided not to celebrate his birthday tomorrow (Sunday)," said a communication received from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

The Chief Minister has asked his supporters and well-wishers not to organise any function on his birthday.

He has also requested his partymen and supporters not to visit his residence Naveen Nivas to greet him, said the CMO.

Patnaik, the son of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, was born in Cuttack on October 16, 1946.

He did not celebrate his birthday in 2015 following a mishap where 11 students were injured due to bursting of a gas balloon cylinder. He also did not celebrate his birthday in 2011, 2013 and 2014 due to various natural calamities.
