Police cremate man family was looking for

Police in cremated as "unidentified" a man whose family had been looking for him since he disappeared.

Police said that on July 9, Aditya, Ajit, Arjun and Rinku overpowered a suspected thief in Shyam Park Extension and handed him over to police.

After the suspect went missing from home, his family on July 10 tried to lodge a missing complaint with police.

Police apparently didn't register a complaint. The family continued in be in touch with the police till July 12.

On July 15, police cremated the suspected thief as "unidentified", alleged Satya Pal Chaudhary, a well-wisher of the family.

On July 16, when family members identified the deceased on the basis of his clothes, they became furious and accused police of killing him in custody.

Facing public ire, police filed a case against those who had caught the suspected thief.

Superintendent of Police, City, Akash Tomar said an inquiry had been instituted into the police conduct.
