Toll collection on national highways to resume from Friday midnight

Ministry elaborated that demonetised Rs 500 notes will be accepted till the midnight of Dec 15

The on Thursday said that toll collection on the national will resume from the midnight of December 2 (Friday) and motorists can pay toll using payment cards and electronic wallets.

According to the Ministry of and Highways: "All toll plazas have been equipped with adequate numbers of POS (swipe machines) through which people can make payments using their credit or debit cards. Toll fee can also be paid through pre-paid instruments (electronic wallets)."

The ministry elaborated that demonetised Rs 500 notes will be accepted till the midnight of December 15. The now demonetised currency notes can only be used for purchase of 'FASTags' and for making toll payments of more than Rs 200.

The ministry encouraged people to buy the 'RFID' based 'FASTags' to enable cashless payments at toll plazas.

"The can be stuck on to the windshield of the vehicle, and toll payments are made directly from the pre-paid account linked to it. Arrangements for sale of the are also being made at select toll fee plazas," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry pointed out that will enable users to get a 10 per cent discount on the toll fee, in addition to faster movement through dedicated lanes at the toll plazas.
