RECAL, the alumni association of NIT Trichy holds its First GLOBAL ALUMNI MEET – 2010 (GAM 2010) at Confident Cascade, Bangalore on August 7, 2010. It is a mega reunion where the Alumni gather with their families, to reminisce, network, get updated and reconnect with friends around the globe. The expected participation is about 1,500 from over 42 batches that have graduated since 1969. The event has a dedicated website www.gam2010.nittrichyalumni.org
NIT Trichy boasts of illustrious alumni who are leaders in Industry, Academia, Public sector enterprises and Government service. Some of the notable alumni include N Chandrasekaran (CEO, TCS, a $6 Billion Services company), R. Sarabeswar, (Chairman CCCL), R Chandrasekaran (Managing Director, Cognizant), KR Sridhar (Founder and CEO, Bloom Energy, an innovative Fuel Cell company leading the charge in the CleanTech industry) and labeled as one of the 100 most creative people in the world, T. Sankaralingam (Chairman BGR Energy and former CMD, NTPC), Babu Mandava, (Founder and CEO of Beceem), a serial entrepreneur whose latest venture is in 4G Mobile Broadband solutions, S Janakiraman (Founder, MindTree), Satya Prabhakar (Founder and CEO, Sulekha.com), Lt Gen KS Venugopal, Vice Admiral SKK Krishnan, Mahesh Amalean (Chairman, MAS Holdings Sri Lanka).
Prabhu Kumar, President, RECAL said, “It is an emotional as well as a joyful moment for all of us as we are meeting in such large numbers after a long time. Though we have all moved on ahead with our careers, we still feel like students in our heart," he added while remembering the golden days he had spent at the institution.“RECAL, the Alumni Association has been active in social community projects. There are very active chapters established in Trichy, Bangalore, Chennai and the United States. Recently RECAL has sponsored over Rs 50 lacs for the middle school building in the campus for education of children of people living in the immediate vicinity of the campus; which was inaugurated earlier this year,” he added.
Rajan Narayanan, President, RECAL Bangalore and convenor for the event had this to say, “We are using this Global meet as an opportunity to redefine and align the Alumni charter in keeping with global trends, technology, inclusiveness & recent worldwide developments. This event is going to define the platform and basis for collaboration amongst all current and future Alumni leveraging the worlds best Web technologies, including social and business networking tools, and trends. The event is showcasing over 30 organisations promoted by the Alumni and has members coming from more than 25 cities worldwide. The lamp lighting ceremony symbolically includes representatives from the first batch (1969) and the most recent batch (2010). In addition to fun and entertainment for the entire family, the program includes sessions on life centric awareness & alternate career options,”
Mr. Kumar Venkatramani, Founder and Chairman of the NIT, Trichy US Alumni Association, who is traveling specifically for this event, said “The Alumni of every institution have a very important role to play in furthering the symbiotic relationship between themselves and their Alma Mater. Specifically, NIT, Trichy has enjoyed a reputation of academic excellence reflected in the several tiers of achievements that its Alumni have accomplished over the years. Pursuing this theme of academic excellence, we are actively engaged in building bridges with US Institutions (both academic and industry) to provide unique opportunities for the students and faculty of NIT Trichy to get exposed to inter-disciplinary programs in Alternate Energy and Bio-Engineering. Prof PS Manisundram who was the first Director of the institute said, “I am very gratified and proud to see the accomplishments of the students of Regional Engineering College now National Institute of Technology, Trichy many of whom I have personally known and interacted with during my tenure at NIT Trichy. During our early days our focus was on attracting the best students many of whom rejected other established institutes to come study at NIT, Trichy. We have always encouraged the students to indulge and grow in all spheres, even outside the academic environment and focus on being productive and socially conscious engineers.
While individually they have done a great deal towards the social and economic development of India, this MEET gives them an opportunity to determine how they could collectively do more for this country. My good wishes for the success of the MEET.”
