Shortage of pulses to stay for 2-3 years, says govt

With the inflation rate of pulses still in double digits for more than a year, the government today said the supply of pulses would remain a critical problem for another two to three years. The government is expecting an increase of two million tonnes (mt) in production of pulses in the current crop year (July 2010-June 2011). “So far as pulses are concerned, it is going to be a critical problem not only for now, but will be a problem for the next 2-3 years.
