Maoist woman prisoner tries to immolate herself

The Maoist, Shivani, poured kerosene oil on herself and set herself alight, but was saved by jail guards who immediately covered her with a blanket, the sources said.

Shivani, who suffered burn injuries on her hands, accused the jail superintendent of outraging her modesty, a charge that was denied by the official, the sources said.

She was treated at the jail hospital for the minor burns.

An investigation was also being made into her allegation.

A Maoist woman prisoner today suffered minor burns after making a bid at self-immolation in prison alleging that her modesty was outraged allegedly by a jail official, in Bihar's Sitamarhi district today, police sources said.

The Maoist, Shivani, poured kerosene oil on herself and set herself alight, but was saved by jail guards who immediately covered her with a blanket, the sources said.

Shivani, who suffered burn injuries on her hands, accused the jail superintendent of outraging her modesty, a charge that was denied by the official, the sources said.
