Over hundred shanties were gutted in a fire at New Town, the new satellite township on the outskirts of the city, early today. Fire brigade sources said the fire broke out at around 1:40 am in the Rajarhat-New Town police station area and engulfed the cluster of shanties. Six fire-tenders were pressed into service to put out the flames suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, the sources said. There was no report of any casualty or injury in the fire.
