1235 people killed in China last month by infectious diseases

A total of 6,92,625 infectious disease cases were reported on the Chinese mainland in April, with 1,235 deaths attributed to the infections, state-run Xinhua agency quoted the Ministry statement as saying.

Most of the deaths were caused by Category B notifiable diseases which included hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, dysentery and gonorrhea.

Category C infectious diseases left 77 people dead in April, with foot-and-mouth disease, mumps and infectious diarrhea reported the most, according to the statement.

The only case of cholera, which falls in Category A, in last month did not cause death, the ministry said.
