As many as one lakh water taps would be installed in villages falling under 30 sub-divisions of Haryana under the 'Tooti Lagao Pani Bachao Abhiyan', Development and Panchayats Minister, O P Dhankar said today.
Presiding over a meeting with district coordinators of 'Gramin Vikas Ke Liye Tarun' (GRAVIT), at Jhajjar, Dhankar said that with the installation of water taps, each household can save about 10 litres of water.
"This means that 10 lakh litres of water would be saved in 30 sub-divisions on a daily basis. In a month, the savings would be of three crore litres which would be a great achievement," he said, according to an official release here.
It was decided in the meeting that in the first phase, the campaign would be implemented in all villages of 30 sub- divisions in June.
All four sub-divisions of Jhajjar have been included in this campaign.
Volunteers of GRAVIT are a team of youth who educate the benefits of various scheme to every person in villages.
Dhankar had held a meeting with junior engineers and superintending engineers of public health engineering on Monday.
In the meeting, he sought information regarding providing adequate water to people in the summers.
It came to notice that there are no taps in houses in some villages resulting in wastage of lots of water.
Therefore, the minister urged to install water taps in all houses, the release said.
