The 35th National Masters Athletics Championship, which will be the selection trials for Indian contingent for the 18th Asian Masters Athletic Championship in Japan, will commence here from February 24.
The championship has received 2,882 entries, involving 735 women, from 28 states, including two Union Territories and a Public Sector Corporation.
The competitors are from the age group of 35 to 95, with change in the age group every five years for both men and women.
All the gold and silver medallists will be selected for the Asian Championship to be held in September and some outstanding athletes who could not participate in this meet due to various genuine reasons may also be considered for selection after duly recommended by the respective state secretaries supported by their performance report, a release said.
Winston Thomas, Secretary of World Masters Athletics, Sivaprakasham, Secretary of Malaysian Masters Athletic Association and Kannan, Secretary of Singapore Masters Athletic Association will be present during the championship, it said.
