The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India's largest container port currently ranks 26th, while the Singapore port tops the list.

The Governor was speaking after inaugurating the new premises of the JNPT at the World Trade Centre here.

He pointed out at even though the maritime sector handles 90 to 95 per cent of the country's trade volume, the sector generates fewer employment opportunities.

He called upon the JNPT and shipping organisations to encourage and train more youths to join the sector and take advantage of the growth potential it holds.
