Amarnath Yatra's base camp in Jammu starts operation

The base-camp has been operationalised for the arrival of the pilgrims who will leave in the first batch to Amarnath cave shrine on June 24, Tourism department officials said here.

Apart from cleanising and white washing the 3-storeyed Yatri Niwas at Bagwatinagar camp, extablishment offices of tourism, health centre, police assistance booth, community kitchens and tents have come up in the area for pilgrims.

The security forces, particularly CRPF, has been deployed in and around the base camp after santisation operation conducted by the police.

"Elaborate security measures have been made in and around the basecamp. We have recently reviewed the security arrangements at the basecamp with CRPF officials", IGP Jammu Zone, Dilbagh Singh said.

All infrastructure would be put in place by the next two days to ensure trouble-free stay of pilgrims visiting the cave shrine, they said.

The Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pardeep Gupta also reviewed the arrangements for smooth conduct of upcoming Amarnath Yatra at a high level meeting also attended by the civil society members here and asked the officers at Yatri Niwas that pilgrims should get round-the-clock health facilities while a fair price shop has also been set up for their convenience.
