Press Trust of India

An anti-encroachment drive will be carried out from March 17 to March 24 here in a bid to make the roads and streets congestion free, officials said today.

The administration will strictly deal with persons who have encroached upon footpaths by putting tin shades or extending their shops, District Magistrate Nidhi Kesarwani said.

She said some shopkeepers have rented out the space in front of their shops and that too will be cleared as part of the drive.

All the structures set up by the traders will be demolished, Kesarwani said.

On March 17, Vaishali and Kaushamibi metro station areas will be cleared. The anti-encroachment drive would also be carried in Kala Pathtar road, Shipra mall, Bihari market and sector 11 and 16 of Vasundhara, she said.

Subsequently, ALTTC intersection, Old Bus Stand area, Govind Puram, Shastri Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park Extension and Lajpat Nagar areas will be cleared of encroachments in the days followed, the District Magistrate said.

She said the drive would be held under the supervision of sector magistrates, police and Nagar Nigam officials.
