'Pragati', the ladies' wing of Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has taken a novel initiative of helping around 50 women of a self-help group in South 24 Parganas district eke out a living.
The women of 'Manickpur Chaitali Sangha' were being supported as part of the 2017-18 initiative to help them meet ends by stitching, embroidery and preparing traditional food items, Pragati President Swati Sen told reporters today.
The ladies' wing is planning to reach out to more SHG groups in 2018-19 in other districts of the state, Sen said.
She said 'Pragati' had also helped women entrepreneurs to launch start-ups in the past.
Sen was speaking at a seminar on 'Women's Challenging Roles in Changing Mindsets' to mark the International Women's Day on March 8.
In another event at the Heritage Institute yesterday, IPS Damayanti Sen and theatre personality Usha Ganguli among others talked about the influence of international women personalities in the field of digital media on the youth.
