The officials conducted the checks at different places like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam among others.

They held searches in the offices of the bus operators at several places in the state yesterday and began the process of checking various records.

The searches and checks were being conducted whether there were any violations of laws like Motor Vehicles Act.

Officials said they would decide the next course of action on the basis of lapses that come to the fore.

Meanwhile, the private bus owners claimed that their business should not be seen in a negative aspect in entirety, just because of one incident.

They insisted that they followed the rules and did an appreciable job in various ways.

With the state-run buses and trains not being able to meet the demand of travelling public, the passengers take to the private luxury buses.

The private buses transport thousands of passengers daily among various cities like Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and a number of other destinations.

29 people were killed and 17 others injured when the private luxury bus fell off a bridge near Solapur while on its way to Shirdi in Maharashtra on Saturday last.

Meanwhile, the officials also checked school buses, who ferry thousands of children across the state every day, at various places in the state.
