Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani today accused the Congress of "not paying enough attention on development", because of which the country had not achieved "as much as it should have" in all these years after Independence.
"Despite being in the government at the Centre repeatedly, the Congress did not give enough importance to development, as a result of which the country could not get to where it should have been in the race of development," said the Union Textiles Minister.
She was here to take part in a programme organised by her party.
Without taking the name of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, Irani said though he was an expert in economics, his expertise was "not visible".
She alleged that during the Congress rule, the poor could not obtain bank loans and even opening bank accounts was not easy for them.
