Cong lawmakers to meet PM on issue of AMU's Bihar centre

Press Trust of India  |  New Delhi

"Land for AMU, Kishanganj centre of Bihar was availed from the state government after a long struggle. It was communicated by some senior most Congress leaders to allocate fund immediately after Bihar government made the land available. Seven months after allocation of land, no grant has been made," Congress MP Mohammad Asrarul Haque said in a press release.

Haque, who himself is an educationist, has taken appointment from the Prime Minister tomorrow to raise the issue.

"A 12-member delegation of MPs, MLAs, MLCs and Congress leaders will meet the PM and submit him a memorandum," the release said.

The Bihar Government had sanctioned allotment of 224.02 acres land for the proposed centre in November last year. The matter was hanging fire for a long time.

The issue had led to political agitation in the state. Finally a single plot of 224.04 acres of land was aquired by the district administration at Kishanganj for the purpose.

Earlier, the AMU authorities had refused to set up the university's study centre in Kishanganj on the ground that the plot acquired for the purpose by the state was in three separate parts.
