Cong's Shaikh Rashid elected mayor of Malegaon civic body

nominee Shaikh Rashid was today elected as the mayor of Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC).

Shiv Sena's Sakharam Ghodke was elected as the deputy mayor, in the mayoral polls of the civic body held here.

Rashid, a former MLA, polled 41 votes by defeating his nearest rival NCP's Nabi Ahmed, who bagged 34 votes, district Collector Radhakrishanan B said.

Ghodke won the deputy mayor's post by securing 41 votesn and defeating NCP-candidate Mansoor Ahmed, who polled 27 votes.

won the MMC last month by winning 28 seats, while the NCP-alliance bagged 27, followed by 13, 9 and AIMIM 7 seats.
