Cop shoots daughter's father-in-law, arrested

Press Trust of India  |  Jammu

A cop shot dead a man with his service revolver apparently because he was upset at his daughter's marriage to the victim's son, police said today.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ram Lal entered into the house of Ravinder Kumar at Ban Sultan area of Miran Sahib in the city and fired at him from his revolver around 13:00 hours today, a senior police officer said.

Lal fired four shots at Kumar while his wife Soma Devi also received injuries when she jumped from the roof-top in an attempt to save her husband, he said.

Both were shifted to a hospital where doctors declared Kumar asbrought dead, he said.

"We have registered a case and apprehended the accused police officer along with weapon of offence. Further investigation is goingon," SP Headquarters Ramesh Kotwal said.

During the preliminary inquiry, it was found that Kumar's son had married Lal's daughter against the latter's wishes, Kotwal said.
