Dalit harassment: Hisar administration orders investigation

The families had alleged that some persons of village Bhagana of Hisar had passed casteist remarks on them.

The officer has been directed to submit the report at the earliest so that strict action could be taken against the accused, an official spokesman said here today.

He said a delegation of Dr B R Ambedkar Samiti had submitted a memorandum to the Hisar district administration in this regard.

Other demands in the memorandum included removal of a wall constructed at the Chowk of the village and dismissal of the village panchayats for alleged irregularities.

He said that senior officers of police would visit the village and talk to both the parties.

About 530 families of the village belonged to backward classes and scheduled castes whereas only 50 families were agitating on the issue, he said.

The villagers had been urged to maintain peace and harmony.

Alleging harassment by members of the majority community, a few Dalit families of village Bhagana in Hisar have been squatting near the mini-secretariat at Hisar.

Two years back, village Mirchpur in Hisar had witnessed tension between the majority community and the Dalits.
