National developmemnt and national security are two sides of same coin, Principal Scientific Advisor to Centre, R Chidambaram has said.
Delivering a public lecture as part of the 8th foundation day of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research here yesterday, Chidambaram said "development without security is vulnerable and security without growth is meaningless."
Chidambaram asked scientific community to focus on basic directed research and applied research that would lead to generate more patent and products, which eventually result in the economic growth of the nation.
He opined that scientist should always work on important problem that were key to the soceity and science.
