Nagaraj of Chellankottai village had committed suicide on November 7. Tension prevailed in the village as no one came to receive his body kept in a government hospital here.

His widow finally agreed to accept the body last night and it was handed over to her 17-year-old son today after completing the requisite formalities, officials said.

Nagaraj's body was later cremated with police maintaining tight vigil.

Meanwhile, officials claimed the situation in some colonies in the district was limping back to normal.

Police continued their search for over 300 people allegedly involved in the arson targeting the Dalit colonies. As many as 126 persons have been arrested in connection with the violent incidents, police said.

The crowd had targeted Natham, the boy's village, and Kondampatty and Anna Nagar on November 7 night, but there were no casualties as the villagers had got wind of the impending attack beforehand and fled.

Senior CPI leader and party Central Executive Committee member R Nallakkannu appealed to the state government to order judicial probe into the violence against the SC community. He was speaking to reporters after visiting the violence-hit areas.

A senior official of the National Commission for SC/ST had visited the three Dalit colonies yesterday.
