Crime Branch Jammu today registered a case under various sections of against Sanjeev Sharma and Dr Mohit Gupta, posted in Gandhi Nagar Hospital here, for their alleged involvement in the offences, CB officials said.

Sanjeev Sharma in a case titled CBI versus Sanjeev Sharma and Others) before the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Jammu, had sought exemption from personal appearance on medical grounds for the hearing fixed on June 14 last.

This was resisted by the prosecution on the plea that the veracity of the medical record produced in the court in support of the application is required to be verified.

On the court's direction to the prosecution to depute some officer to ascertain the truthfulness of the medical record, an officer of the rank of Inspector was deputed and after verifying the records of Gandhi Nagar Hospital reported that the accused was never hospitalised and that the medical certificate produced by the accused was false and fabricated.

In this backdrop, the prosecution (CBI) filed an application seeking an enquiry against the accused persons. The application was treated as complaint by the Court and endorsed to the CJM Jammu for action under law through Crime Branch.

From the perusal of the complaint, it was found that accused Sanjeev in connivance with Dr Gupta had procured a false and fabricated medical certificate which was produced with an application before the Principal District and Sessions Judge Court, Jammu seeking exemption from personal appearance on medical grounds.

The other accused Gupta, the officials said, abusing his official position had issued the false and fabricated medical certificate to Sanjeev Sharma.
