Effigies of Atheist conclave organisers burnt

Press Trust of India  |  Mathura

Members of the Rashtriya Lok Dal and other organisations today burnt effigies of the organiser of the Atheist 'Sammelan'(conclave)in Vrindavan.

Effigy of Belendu Goswami was burnt by the RLD and an organisation representing residents of Vrindavan. A few delegates of the conclave were allegedly roughed up at the Balendu Ashram here, police said.

"However, the two-day conclave did not take off because Goswami did not have permission from the district administration," City Magistrate Ram Araj Yadav said.

Organisations started opposing the conclave after Goswami announced it at a press conference yesterday.
