The forest officials suspect that the 12-year-old female elephant might have been poisioned by some poacher. The decomposed body was lying near a water body, said Bijay Kumar Nayak, the divisional forest officer (DFO), Baripada.

The DFO said the postmortem report would reveal the cause of the elephant's death.

  

Female elephant found dead in Odisha

One female elephant was today found dead near village Lalpani under Dukuna forest range on the foothills of Similipal in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district.

The forest officials suspect that the 12-year-old female elephant might have been poisioned by some poacher. The decomposed body was lying near a water body, said Bijay Kumar Nayak, the divisional forest officer (DFO), Baripada.

The DFO said the postmortem report would reveal the cause of the elephant's death.
