Fresh arson on second day of indefinite Terai-Dooars bandh

Police said two cars were set on fire at Odlabari in Mal block allegedly by bandh supporters.

Yet another car and a scooter were set afire at Bagrakote near Siliguri during a clash between bandh supporters and locals, who are opposing the shutdown.

Police said 100 were detained at Jaigaon for disturbing peace by gheraoing the police station there to press for allowing Terai-Dooars Coordination Committee to hold meeting in the area and its inclusion in GTA.

Earlier, IG, North Bengal, Sanjay Singh had said 70 people were arrested at Jaigaon.

Another gherao is on at Banarhat police station by locals and businessmen demanding the arrest of John Barla, Adivasi Vikas Parishad leader for Terai-Dooars for yesterday's arson and compensation to those whose shops were set on fire.

Pro-bandh activists had set ablaze nine shops at Banarhat and several shops at Chamurchi near Banarhat yesterday. They had also set fire to a truck at Red Bank tea garden near Banarhat, while cars and other vehicles were damaged in stone throwing between pro and anti-bandh supporters at Odlabari.
